Meet the #teamPhoenix - Andy Doran

We are back with another Meet the #teamPhoenix where we get to know the wonderful people who help make Phoenix Brickwork / Drywall / Scaffold.

This week we are introducing Senior Quantity Surveyor Andy Doran, who will be a familiar face to many with his recent return to Phoenix. We are all extremely happy to have Andy back with #teamPhoenix and are delighted to share his Meet the Team!

How long have you been at Phoenix, and what is your job role?
Previously for 6 and a half years, but I have just returned to Phoenix since the end of February this year and it feels like I’ve never been away. I am a Quantity Surveyor on the Brickwork side of the business.

Tell us what a typical day at Phoenix looks like for you?
No two days are usually the same, typically I’ll spend my time measuring projects to quantify the materials required, submitting valuations, identifying and agreeing variations, regular site visits, subcontractor payments and agreeing final accounts. Although babysitting Dylan takes up A LOT of my time!! ?

What is your best work memory?

Its always a good memory to look back at some of the great Phoenix projects that I’ve played a (very small!) part in, the ones that spring to mind are The Heart of the Campus, Nottingham, The Crescent, Buxton, and St Marks in Lincoln. As a QS any project that had a good final account is nice to look back on as well.

On a less serious note, Carl Taylor getting stuck in a Cherry Picker and getting stuck in the mud myself at Project Munio in Derby will be hard to forget!

How did your career in the Construction Industry start?

My career in the industry started with Phoenix as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, I think I might have been the last person interviewed in the old Belper taxi rank offices!

Give us your best joke?

What’s orange and sounds like a parrot?...a carrot!

And finally, what does being part of #teamPhoenix mean to you?

There’s nowhere else quite like #TeamPhoenix. Everyone has been very welcoming since day one, always willing to support and help each other just like one big happy family…long may it continue!
