Building Success with Ian Knight

When I joined Phoenix Brickwork in September 2014, it was impossible to see how much the business would develop and grow.

I started at the Northampton office with just three staff and by the end of the first year, we had turned over £3m. The buzz I felt was indescribable.

Today, Phoenix Brickwork continues to expand and that’s thanks to our crowd of hardworking staff who are passionate about building success.

This year has already been phenomenal. We’ve delivered on some massive contracts, like St Marks, Lincoln’s new student village, and we continue to work on new and exciting projects.

Personally, I’ve taken on a big challenge too. With the backing of our company founder and chairman, Christian Watson, I’ve been focusing my attention on creating a more cohesive working environment between our two offices in Derbyshire and Northampton.

Day-to-day practices across our centres will now become more fluid and efficient, staff will share their knowledge and our new national operation will offer clients a more sleek, professional, and bespoke service.

By defining our goals and confirming exactly what we’re working towards, we hope to celebrate even more successes across the industry.

Creating a stronger, more robust national brand shortens the M1 corridor between our offices and means we can provide a better service for our clients. From Leeds to Luton, Oxford to Cambridge, we can lead on bigger and better developments and get involved in some of the UK’s most prestigious projects.

At the beginning of 2022, I started spending more time at both Phoenix offices so we could install new processes to consolidate a stronger, more efficient way to operate.

It’s a different kind of role for me, but I’m loving the challenge – and eventually, we’ll have a national brand with two thriving centres in the UK.

I’ve worked in the construction industry since leaving school in 1988. I’ve been a very hands-on guy, happiest in my boots and out on site. The next hurdle is moving the team to bigger offices in Northampton and that’s planned for early this summer.

Joining Phoenix has showed me how well our teams work together, why projects are hugely successful and why our company continues to do the very best both on construction and within its management.

Every single task is executed by staff who are passionate about what they do. They are continually learning new skills, developing innovative solutions, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

I am proud to be part of this story. I am proud to call the team at Phoenix my work family.

Exciting times are ahead, and it is my pleasure to be involved.
