The landmark £65 million pound Social Sciences Hub project designed by HLM Architects for the University of Sheffield & delivered by BAM Construction and its supply chain is to represent the future growth of the faculty over the next 15 years. The scheme is set out to provide ‘bespoke accommodation’ for the departments of sociological studies, economics and politics alongside shared facilities- ‘The design embraces the idea that every learning space should be active and includes shallow-raked, large-volume active learning spaces that support both traditional and active learning alongside technology-rich group working areas and individual study areas.’

The building’s form is described as a series of overlapping organic curved floor plates that ebb and flow, ‘hinting at the site’s history as an old reservoir’. A façade of staggered glass planes ‘reflects the world around and the multifaceted nature of the social sciences’ said HLM.

Phoenix Brickwork / Drywall / Scaffold Ltd was selected by valued client BAM Construction to provide all Masonry, SFS, Drywall, Suspended Ceiling & Acoustic Treatment packages on the scheme.

We are proud to be recognised as members of FIS (Finishes and Interiors Sector), representing specialists in all aspects of the interior fit-out and finishes sector. Our Drywall division also picked up an award in the Drylining Commercial Category at the Finishes and Interiors Sector awards.

Our Drywall Managing Director Dave Newbold added, "As much as this award highlights our own high standards and constant desire to provide a quality product for our clients we could not have done it without our team, BAM's proficient site team, the support of our supply chain partners and the top-quality subcontractors who all contributed to this award-winning project! I am extremely proud of the whole team, dedication and commitment drove this project forward and this award is well-deserved team recognition."

Well done to our Phoenix Drywall team, let’s hope this is the first of many!
