South City Campus phase 3 designed by Sheppard Robson for Birmingham City University, the City South project provides accommodation for the existing, co-located and newly-formed University’s schools while creating a new Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences.
The external envelope is characterised by the use of red brick, which is a contemporary interpretation of the red-coloured bricks that are commonly found throughout the local context.
The building is given a distinctly modern feel through patterns of brick relief and recessed windows, which add a strong sense of geometry and rhythm to the facades.
EH Smith worked with Sheppard Robson, BAM Construct UK and specialist subcontractor Phoenix Brickwork / Drywall / Scaffold Ltd to select and supply facing bricks, bespoke masonry support and brick cladding to this landmark scheme.
